Stockbrot (Bread on a stick)
Ingredients:
1 kg flour
600 ml lukewarm water
2 pieces of yeast or 2 packages of dried yeast
1 teaspoon salt
Mix the ingredients together in a bowl and knead until you can see bubbles in the dough. Let it rise for about one hour in a warm place. Make portions about half the size of a tennis ball and shape into a long ”sausage”. Wind this in a spiral around a wooden stick with a diameter of about 2-3 cm and about one metre long . The end of the stick should be totally covered with dough, otherwise it may burn. Hold the stick with the dough-end over the fire (approx. distance of 30 cm) or, even better, over the hot embers and turn the stick slowly so that the bread gets baked from all sides until it is brown on the outside and cooked on the inside. Make sure you do not burn it. You need some patients. Stockbrot is good to eat with hot sausages, cheese, Nutella (chocolate spread) or jam ...
